Meet Katie

I am a lover of color and texture, bits of perfect and bits of imperfect all playing there on a canvas. I am obsessed with creating with my hands and solving visual problems. I adore the unique way in which an original piece of art has the power to bring a space to life and make it deeply, personally yours. When I’m not painting, you can find me hanging with our four kids or keeping my hands busy with needlepoint and my brain busy with an audiobook.

I earned a BFA in graphic design from the University of Michigan in 2001 and worked as a web designer early in my career. Now I work from my studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan, primarily in acrylic paint, but I’ve also been known to throw ink, charcoal and colored pencil into the mix. I love paint that looks like paint and unexpected moments of color.

I am grateful for the support of my husband who helps provide the time and space to make art. I am indebted to my parents who never questioned the value of a fine arts education. And I am thankful for my kids who are endlessly adorable and amusing. They are a source of much joy.
